From "Swamp" to Sparkling: A North Chico Green Pool Rescue

While most people aren’t thinking about swimming in January, for a pool owner on the north side of Chico, the start of 2026 brought a stressful sight: a dark green "pond" where their backyard oasis used to be.

They called Apex Pool Care, and what we found was a perfect storm of equipment failure and deferred maintenance. Here’s how we turned a backyard eyesore back into a crystal-blue retreat in just a few visits.

Green Pool Inspection: Uncovering the "Why"

A green pool is usually just a symptom; the real problem lies hidden in the equipment pad. During my initial inspection of this North Chico property, I found a series of issues that were starving the pool of the care it needed:

  • Filter Trauma: The cartridge filters had been taken to a local car wash and cleaned with a high-pressure power washer. Pro-tip: This actually destroys the fabric fibers, making the filter useless.

  • The "Twist": The booster pump hose was badly twisted, choking off water flow and preventing the cleaner from moving.

  • Broken Tech: The Polaris sweep was completely non-functional, and the pump schedules were set incorrectly, meaning the water wasn't circulating when it needed to most.

  • Internal Clogs: The filter air screen was clogged and ruined, and the system was battling months of accumulated organic debris and landscaping rocks that had settled on the floor.

The Apex Balance Recovery Plan

A "Green-to-Clean" transformation isn't just about dumping in chlorine; it’s about restoring the "lungs" of the pool. Over the course of a few targeted stops, we got to work:

  1. Debris Removal: We manually removed the landscaping rocks and heavy organic matter to prevent staining and equipment damage.

  2. Hardware Overhaul: We replaced the ruined cartridges with brand-new American-Made filter cartridges, installed a new booster hose, and replaced the broken Polaris sweep with a fresh unit.

  3. Flow Restoration: We corrected the pump schedules to ensure the water actually moves through the new filters efficiently.

  4. Chemical Balancing: After a heavy professional vacuuming, we precisely balanced the water chemistry to kill the algae and keep the water safe for the pool's plaster.

The Result: A New Weekly Partner

By the end of the week, the "North Chico Swamp" was gone. In its place was a sparkling, clear blue pool ready for the 2026 season.

The homeowner was so relieved to have the "hard work" off their plate that they have officially hired Apex Pool Care for weekly service. In fact, he left a glowing 5-Star review on Google, "Life got busy and I ended up with a green pool full of rocks, leaves, and algae. The chemistry was off and the equipment was worn out... Apex completely turned it around. If you're in Chico and need a reliable pool service, call them. He was super reasonable and easy to work with. I actually couldn't believe how quickly he was able to restore the pool, it was literally amazing. 10 out of 5 stars." Now, they don't have to worry about car wash filter cleanings or twisted hoses—they just get to enjoy the view.
